Choosing Paint Colors

When it is time to redo a living room, kitchen or any room in the house, choosing paint colors can be quite a challenge. There are just hundreds of different paints and colors to choose from; knowing from the start will help. But many do not really know what color they want when they first start out. Some want to repaint the kitchen, it has become drab and needs sprucing up.

You should be very patient when choosing paint colors say for the kitchen. Sit and look at the kitchen as it is now. Realize what can be painted and what cannot. The large appliances usually cannot be changed, not unless they are old and no longer cost efficient. Maybe just one color will do, or two or three. If it is a small kitchen using just one color can make it seem larger. If it happens to have more than one window, think about painting the window trim one color and the walls another. Once you have decided on the color or colors choose the kind of paint that should be applied in a kitchen.

To repaint the living room of an older home or a brand new one, choosing paint colors can be taken from what is in the room. Try pulling a color from a rug, lamp shade or pillows. When going to find that right color, take a sample of what color you are looking for if you can. A mauve color from a pillow can add wow to one wall painted the same color.

Because there are so many different colors and color schemes to pick, be sure choosing paint colors matches the personality of the people living in the home. Get ideas from family members that will be living in that room. Some may like hot pink, while others will not.

Trim out the walls as well when choosing paint colors. If the walls are a soft white try a darker color on the moldings, windows and doors. Or do the reverse, using a dark color on the trims that would look nice with the walls. A bit daring yes, but it would certainly be one of a kind room.

Even painting the outside of the home with different colors can really add sparkle and newness to the home. Choosing paint colors for the outside of the home should reflect the people inside and what will look good. Not the mention the neighbors believe it or not, they have a roll in the color you choose as well.

There are many different kinds of paint. When choosing paint colors; remember what kind of wall you are painting and where. Some are specifically for kitchens and bathrooms. Others are for the other rooms and the outside. There is enamel paint, flat, Simi gloss, high gloss and the list goes on.

Choosing paint colors for any room in the house can be fun and rewarding. Get the family involved as well. Painting parties are a great way to get that help you need and enjoy each others company as well.
